The three-year veteran is one of the few young football players that will be known as one of the up and coming defenders of his time. Known for his defensive awareness and passion for the sport, Turner had been on the radar to add defense to any team that could offer a contract that was suitable enough for him. 

Sunderland was not the only club that offered Turner a contract, he was offered a £6 contract by Liverpool, while Hull City wanted a reportedly £12m.  Turner is one of the few players that have played every minute of each game last season in a Premier League season, which are 38 games in an entire season. 

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce praises Michael Turner as a real pedigree when it comes to being a defender. 

Bruce’s main objective is to bring size to his defensive back line-recruiting players who have size and truly understand the game of football.  Sunderland has also brought players, such as Darren Bent, Lee Cattermole, Fraizer Campbell Lorik Cana, Paulo Da Silva and loanee John Mensah. 

In this attempt to beef up Sunderland’s club status, Bruce is seeking to obtain a championship with the club.
