Group G was expected to provide a lot of excitement for World Cup fans with Brazil, Portugal, Côte d'Ivoire and North Korea. However, Portugal’s game against Côte d'Ivoire on Tuesday proved to be another lackluster game in this world cup.

If you take away the Germany game, this world cup has not lived up to expectations so far. The biggest and unfortunate star so far has been the Adidas Jabulani ball which has caused problems for just about every team.

The game was interesting in stages but overall did not live up to expectations with both teams holding on to a draw and finishing 0-0. Ivory Coast and Portugal played a hard game and tried their best but there were no outstanding player performances to set the stage on fire.

Both coaches were disappointed with the result because a win would have helped their team secure 3 points instead of the 1 point which is awarded for a draw. Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo was marked very well and his impact on the match was greatly reduced.

There was one outstanding move during the first half by Ronaldo which caused a ripple throughout the crowd. The flamboyant player made a bewildering turn and a stunning strike which ended up missing the goal by a small margin and thudded into the post. Ivory’s start player, Drogba who was on the bench at this time, let out a sigh of relief and crossed himself glad that no damage was done.

Sven Goran Eriksson the national manager for the Ivory Coast would have been happy with the result he received from FIFA who gave permission for Drogba to play with a special cast. Didier Drogba who is recovering from a broken arm, then came on hoping he could create some magic and score the first goal for his team.

The crowd in South Africa went crazy when they saw Drogba coming on to the pitch. This tournament is currently suffering due to a lack of star power and brilliance, and fans were hoping to see either Drogba or Ronaldo shine and give them something to cheer about.

However, neither of the stars could pull of a victory for their team.

Both Portugal and the Ivory Coast will now be looking to win their remaining matches and will have to play at a much higher level than today if they are expecting to beat Brazil.
