This World Cup finally came to life when the Argentineans played an incredible game of almost fantasy football to thrash the Koreans 4-0. This was easily the most exciting match of the tournament and had fans cheering throughout the game.
It started from the very first minute, when Messi showed off his dribbling skills and got Argentina their first corner. The Korean defense came under a barrage of shots throughout the game as their weak defense was unable to stand up to the Argentinean attack.
The first goal for Argentina was bizarre as it came of Park Chu-young and resulted in an own goal. Striker Gonzalo Higuain scored the second goal for Argentina, towards the end of the first half and it looked like the scored would end with Argentina being 2-0.
However, two minutes before the first half could finish, the Argentinean defense was caught napping and Lee Chung-yong managed to score.
The Koreans played a good game during the first half and posed a threat to the Argentinean defense on more than one occasion.
All that changed in the second half, when Argentina showed just how good they can be. Gonzalo Higuain went on to score two more goals and get the first hat-trick of this world cup. The Koreans were outplayed and outclassed completely and in the end looked happy to go off the field.
Although, Higuain scored 3 goals, this was Messi’s match. He was brilliant and showed fans why he is up there with the likes of Rooney and Kaka. He was marked by two Korean defenders throughout the game but his dribbling skills and creative passes were unstoppable. Coach Diego Maradona will be extremely pleased with his star player’s performance and if Messi continues this golden vein of form, it will not be long before he scores for Argentina.
After the game, Maradona told reporters that “Let me tell you, South Korea was never capable of controlling us, they never dominated any part of the match. We were never worried about them and they never upset us.”
Argentina is guaranteed to go onto the next round as they have 6 points on the board from their two wins. Their final Group B match is against Greece.
Maradona went on to say that “We want to go on playing this way, we are on the right path, but we don't want to think yet about the teams we could face in the next round”.
