Luis Suarez scored twice for Uruguay and made sure that his team qualified for the quarter finals. The Ajax Amsterdam man continues his good run of form and becomes one of the top scorers of this world cup.

Suarez scored for Uruguay in the 8th minute to give them a 1-0 leave of Korea. The Koreans kept pressing forward but were unable to penetrate the Uruguayan defense in the first half. They came back even stronger in the second half and Chung-Yong scored for them in the 68th minute to make the score 1-1.

Korea attacked more than the Uruguayans but it was Suarez who came up with an exceptional goal in the 80th minute to give Uruguay a 2-1 lead.

South Korea’s coach Huh Jung-Moo played down Suarez’s goals and termed it a stroke of luck. He told reporters after the match “Uruguay were lucky in their goals. We controlled the match in the second half, even though we could not score more than one goal.”

He was happy with the performance of his squad and went on to say “This was not the result we wanted, but my players gave their best. My team should be congratulated. There was not much we could improve, maybe we lacked a little bit of intelligence. But my players showed they were true Koreans”.

With this win, Uruguay will now play Ghana in their quarter final match. Uruguay’s coach Oscar Tabarez was an extremely happy man. He said “We are a country of only three million people, we have been a long time looking forward to something like this and now it's happened - we are one of the eight best teams in the world. I think Korea had a great match. Perhaps they weren't lucky and we were, but that's football”

The Koreans surprised the Uruguayans by going in with a different strategy. They attacked throughout the match which meant the Uruguayans had to chase and defend most of the time, which caught them unawares and left them tired at the end.

If it wasn’t for Suarez’s brilliance, the result could have been reversed. Suarez, 23, who plays for Ajax Amsterdam was thrilled that his performance pushed Uruguay through. He told reporters later “Being young, this is the moment I have always dreamed of. This is an unrepeatable moment. I can imagine what it will be like back in Uruguay. The truth is they deserve it, all the people who have always been behind us, not to mention our families.”
