England will no longer be a part of this World Cup as they went down to Germany on Sunday with a 4-1 thrashing. They never looked like winning the World Cup and to be honest, they should never have been in the last 16. Their performance against Germany was typical of their whole World Cup campaign - below par, mediocre and disappointing.

If you take out Lampard’s and James' performances, this English team were completely outplayed and outclassed by Germany. Yes, many people will talk about Lampard’s goal which was disallowed. Replays clearly showed that the ball went past the line but at the end of the day, England did not lose by one goal, they were systematically out-performed by a superior team.

For a team that came with such hype and World Cup hopes, their high-paid "Superstars" played no better than a decent non-league team.

Klose and Podolski, the serial goal scorers for Germany came good as they both scored in the first half. Klose was brilliant scoring in the 20th minute and Podolski scored in the 32nd minute to give Germany a 2-0 lead.

England’s goalkeeper David James was livid with his defenders. Rooney was marked well by Schweinsteiger and never looked like scoring. It was Upson who came up with a nice header in the 37th minute to give England their first goal.

The first half ended with a 2-1 scoreline and David Beckham dressed in a suit, was seen encouraging his team mates to go out and put up a better fight. This England squad is filled with stars from the Premier League, yet none of them were able to put their hand up and be counted when it mattered most!

Much was expected of Wayne Rooney but he was a complete disappointment in this world cup. He was unable to score nor was he able to create any openings for his team mates. John Terry was caught napping on more than one occasion and their defense was in shambles. They clearly missed the services of Rio Ferdinand.

People had earlier labeled this German squad as one of the weakest squads that Germany had ever sent to the world cup but they were brilliant. Schweinsteiger may not have scored in this match but his performance was exceptional. Schweinsteiger along with Ozil and Muller controlled the mid-field and ensured that Germany had a high percentage of ball possession throughout the game.

It was Muller who scored twice in the second half within a span of three minutes to give Germany an unbeatable 4-1 lead which secured them a quarter final match against Argentina.

England fans were thoroughly disappointed with the result as this maybe the last time they see the likes of Lampard, Terry and Gerrard in a world cup. England, now join France and Italy as they head back home without making the quarter finals.
