Bundesliga – Youthful Dortmund or Experienced Bayern?
The German Bundesliga kicks off Friday evening with Champions Borussia Dortmund hosting Hamburg SV at Westfalenstadion (Signal Iduna Park). Unibet has all the season bets and match odds already on-line for the German top division.
Bayern Munich, who sacked Louis Van Gall during the latter parts of last season are favourites to win the league with new coach Jupp Heynckes at odds 1.55. However, Dortmund’s young and promising team have their eyes set on defending their title (Odds 5.00). Leverkusen are priced at 12.00, and they must prove that they can cope after losing important defensive Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal to Juventus during the summer.
“Everyone thought that it was too early for the young Dortmund squad to challenge for the title last season, but they proved all the experts wrong. This year all eyes will be on Dortmund and that pressure together with the Champions League participation will put a lot of strain on the team”, says Erik Bäcklund, Head of Unibet Sportsbook.
The Bundesliga is very unpredictable and any team can beat one of the big guns on a good day. Apart from Bayern Munich, Dortmund and Leverkusen, there are a host of teams who believe that they can challenge for the Bundesliga title; Schalke 04 (odds 22.00), 08/09 champions Wolfsburg (odds 25.00), Hamburg SV (odds 33.00), Werder Bremen (odds 33.00) and Stuttgart (odds 40.00) will all pose a threat for the title and the Champions League places.
“The pre-season speculations have been all about Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, but I wouldn’t be surprised if a team like Stuttgart can repeat their success from the 06/07 season and cause yet another surprise”. They have a great manager in Bruno Labbadia, who saved them from relegation last year and who will be looking to build on that momentum”, says Erik Bäcklund.
The real title race are though still believed to be between the young promising Dortmund squad and Bayern Munich’s star-studded team, with Ribery, Robben and Mario Gomez leading the charge for resurrection. If Bayern would fail to win the Bundesliga, it might still be a good bet to back one of their stars to become Top Goalscorer in the league. Gomez is favourite and priced at 4.00, Robben at 10.00, whilst Leverkusen’s Barrios has the odds 15.00 and 1. FC Köln’s Podolski is priced at 25.00.
