World Cup 2010 - The Netherlands End Slovakia’s Dream

Slovakia played extremely well to reach the round of 16 but was unable to get past the Netherlands on Monday. The Dutch played an extremely attacking game and were in complete control of the match.

The Dutch took the lead in the first half when Arjen Robben put in a brilliant solo run and then struck a powerful shot to give the Dutch a 1-0 lead. Robben who has been recovering from an injury has been extremely well nursed by Dutch coach Bert van Marwijk. This was the first game in which he decided to play Robben in the starting eleven.

World Cup - Samba Magic too Powerful for Chile

Brazil are strong contenders to win this world cup and they were the clear favourites in their match against Chile. The match proved to be a one sided game with Brazil dominating right from the start.

Juan and Luis Fabiano scored in the first half to give Brazil a commanding 2-0 lead. The Chileans fought hard but were unable to convert the few chances they got. Robinho scored for Brazil in the second half to give them a 3-0 victory.

With this victory, Brazil advances to the quarterfinals and will take on the Netherlands who defeated Slovakia earlier in the day. Kaka was unable to score against Chile and is yet to score a goal in this world cup. The Brazilian star who was coming back after suspension picked up another yellow card in this match.

Argentina Through to the Quarter Finals of the World Cup

Argentina defeated Mexico on Sunday as expected to book a quarter final match against Germany who had earlier sent England packing. Mexico did their best to stop Argentina but the combination of Messi and Tevez proved to be too strong in the end.

Tevez who had come into this tournament out of form, has gotten better with every match. He scored twice for Argentina. Tevez, first scored in the 25th minute, although replays showed that he was clearly offside but the linesman did not call him and the goal was allowed. Tevez’s second goal was brilliant as he thundered in a powerful shot from outside the box.

Ricardo Osorio, Mexico’s right back made a blunder which Gonzalo Higuain pounced on to score. With this goal, Higuain now has 4 goals in this world cup and is up there with the tournaments leading scorers.
