The experts predicted that Spain was the favourite to win this year’s World Cup and they were right! On Sunday, Spain took on the Netherlands in a closely contested match and neither team was able to score during the game.
It was only in the dying minutes of extra-time, when Spain managed to score through Andrés Iniesta after Cesc Fábregas set it up with an exceptional pass. The Matadors were ecstatic in their celebrations as they knew it was too late for the Dutch to find an equalizer. Iniesta pulled of his shirt to show the world a message that he had for the late Espanyol captain, Dani Jarque who passed away last year after suffering a heart attack during a training session. |

Spain managed to beat Germany 1-0 thanks to a goal from Carlos Puyol in the 74th minute and will now take on the Netherlands in the final which is to be held on the 11th of July.
Spain had an easy opportunity in the 6th minute, when Pedro beat Manuel Neuer but failed to pass the ball to David Villa who could have easily scored.
Germany was weakened by the absence of Mueller who has been a star for them. Mueller was suspended for the semi-final game and his presence was clearly missed. Both teams played competitive football during the first half but neither team managed to score. |

The Dutch have always been an exciting team producing star players over the years like Marco Van Basten, Ruud Gullit and Frank Rijkaard but have never managed to make the world cup finals since 1978.
All that changed on Tuesday, when they eliminated Uruguay and secured a place in the finals. The match was a close contest and the men in orange found it extremely hard to get past the tight Uruguayan midfield. |
